Quarry restoration set back three years

The former limestone quarry on Vale Road is being filled with harmless waste as part of a plan to bring it to a level comparable with the surrounding land.

Developers have also outlined plans for agricultural grazing land, woodland, an ecological habitat and a lake.

At present HGVs transporting waste materials to the site are limited to 84 per day Monday to Friday and 44 per day on Saturday.

But Amanda Fisher, Mansfield District Councillor for Woodhouse ward, said nearby residents were weary of traffic noise.

“Some residents are contacting Nottinghamshire County Council because they were hoping the work would be finished by November.

“It is a bit of a contentious issue as there are not just lorries but low loaders and vans too.

“On the other hand, being someone who has three Labradors it would be a fantastic place for people to go if it came to fruition. But I am not confident that it would.”

The site’s developer is currently applying for permission to extend the completion date for its landfilling project by three years from November this year to December 2017.

This is because the 300,000 tonnes per year limit on waste transferred to the site makes the current deadline unachievable.

Access is provided to Vale Road by turning left from the site access onto Warsop High Street and Portland Street before joining the A6075 Warsop Road.

A planning officer at Nottinghamshire County Council has confirmed the planning amendment will not mean an increase in traffic to and from the site.
