All members of Mansfield District Council’s planning committee voted against the proposals to build on land at Park Hall Road last year.

The committee was left seething when a spokesman for Barratt Homes launched an attack on the council’s planning policy, and said they would ‘test’ the council with a public inquiry if they were to be turned it down.

Despite Coun Katrina Atherton describing the comments a ‘thinly-veiled threat’, the committee turned down the application on the grounds that it was outside the urban boundary and that a five-year housing land supply was already available.

Their decision was welcomed by residents living on Park Hall Road and surrounding area, who had campaigned against the plans in the months leading up to the council’s decision.

Many opposing the plans said traffic congestion was a primary worry, with Park Hall Road earmarked as the only entrance and exit to the planned estate.

There were 35 issues raised by locals in total.
