A Sutton-in-Ashfield pub is inviting local residents to take part in its Wishmas Pudding family event for the chance to see their Christmas wishes come true.

The King’s Mill Farm, which is part of the Farmhouse Inns collection of pubs, is celebrating the Stir Up Sunday tradition on Saturday November 19 and Sunday November 20 from 10am.

Stir Up Sunday is the last Sunday before Advent, and the day to stir up the Christmas pudding so it’s ready in time for Christmas.

It is a tradition that harks back to Victorian times when the family would gather together in the kitchen to each stir the pudding five weeks before Christmas whilst making a secret wish.

Practically, stirring the mixture is hard work, therefore as many as people possible are involved.

By tradition the pudding mixture is stirred from east to west in honour of the three wise men who visited the baby Jesus

The pub, on King’s Mill Road East, is asking locals to take part by stirring its pudding mix and submitting their Christmas wishes on a wish-slip, with one lucky guest’s wish being selected to come true.

Laura Hattersley, general manager at the King’s Mill Farm, said: “The build up to Christmas is always a magical time, and Stir Up Sunday is a wonderful family tradition to help get families in the festive mood!

“We’re famous for our delicious homemade cakes, so are encouraging people to come down to take part in our Wishmas Pudding
event and kick off the Christmas celebrations early with us.

“In fact, we love this tradition so much we’re giving guests the chance to take part all weekend.

“We can’t wait to hear what wishes guests make – from organising a carvery party for your nan’s birthday, to a brand new Xbox, we might just make it come true.”
