Pub calls last order with plans to convert building into a home

A pub looks to have called last orders with plans to transform it into a house.

The New Inn on Station street, Mansfield Woodhouse, closed on Saturday and plans have been submitted to Mansfield District Council to convert it into a dwelling.

The pub had been vacant and fallen into disrepair before the current owner took over in 2011.

The Grade II-listed building was built in the 1830s.

A statement from the applicant said 'Due to changes in the nature of the public house industry it is unlikely to be suitable for such use at any point in the future

'The proposal is considered to provide the best possible opportunity for the preservation of the property and its historic legacy, given that it is understood to be no longer viable as a modern-day public house.'

Due to its listed status, the three-storey building was on the '˜buildings at risk' register prior to the current owner taking over, but has since been removed.

As part of the plans, the 12-bay car park will be reduced to four parking spaces and the remainder transformed into a back garden '˜more befitting its residential use'.

The swinging pub sign outside the building will be preserved as part of its heritage.
