Protection of green spaces

Mansfield District Council is asking residents to nominate areas of Local Green Space within the District that are of particular importance to their community.

The Government has made it possible for sites that meet certain criteria to be specially protected.

Sites can be nominated because of their beauty, historic significance, recreational value, tranquility or wildlife.

The Council will decide which sites qualify for protection.

Coun Philip Shields, portfolio holder for the environment at Mansfield District Council, said: “I would encourage as many residents as possible across the District to nominate areas of Local Green Space that are of particular importance to them and their local community. We can then consider providing special protection against development for these areas.”
