Premises move marks new era for A. Wass

A. Wass Funeral Directors left its home on The Quarry on Stoneyford Road and moved into a more spacious and modern building on Priestsic Road earlier this month.

Its new location has two family rooms, an area that can be used for humanist funeral services, two chapels of rest and a large garage area for its fleet of funeral cars.

Managing director Paul Brown said that though it had been sad to leave The Quarry, the company’s home since 1903, the new premises will allow the business to continue to expand.

“The move has had a massive effect on the growth of the business already,” he said.

“The setting was nice at The Quarry but everything here is modern and the feedback we have been getting from families is amazing.”

A lot of effort has been put into making the funeral directors feel as warm and comfortable for grieving families as possible, while the extra space will allow the business to take on more work.

A. Wass has also recently completed the acquisition of well-known Pinxton business, Derrick Gent Funeral Services, of Town Street.

This business has been run by Derrick since the 1950s and will continue to operate under the Derrick Gent name but with the funeral services provided by A. Wass.

Derrick said that he has had a good working relationship with A. Wass for over 30 years.

“I feel Paul was a natural progression to take over. I am ready for retirement and he has got the enthusiasm and facilities,” he said.

A. Wass’ new premises will be officially opened on 8th August by Nottinghamshire coroner Mairin Casey.
