Praise for increase in research at King’s Mill Hospital

The NHS trust that runs King’s Mill Hospital has been praised for increasing the amount of clinical research it is carrying out.

Figures published by the National Institute for Health Research Clinical Research Network - the research delivery arm of the NHS - show that Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust increased the number of clinical studies it runs from 70 in 2012/13 to 76 in 2013/14.

A total of 1,113 patients have volunteered to take part in research studies, which the institute says contribute to the drive for better treatment for all NHS patients.

Jonathan Sheffield, chief executive officer of the Clinical Research Network, said: “I would like to thank all the patients and carers who have taken part in research, and thereby made a contribution to improving NHS treatments for everyone.

“I would also like to congratulate Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for increasing their number of studies.

“We know that research is something that patients really value and these trusts are creating the opportunities for patients to get involved.”
