Timpson dry cleaning pod set for Tesco store -- all the latest Mansfield plans

Shoppers at a Tesco Extra store in Mansfield could soon benefit from additional services, such as dry cleaning, key cutting and phone, shoe, watch and jewellery repairs.

For bosses at the supermarket giant have joined forces with Timpson Ltd to set up a retail pod on a hard-standing area of the car park at the Chesterfield Road South store.

Timpson is renowned across the country and currently operates similar pods or cabins at other locations across the UK.

Now it has submitted a planning application to Mansfield District Council to provide one close to the entrance of the popular Tesco Extra store.

It would be open from 9 am to 6 pm Mondays to Saturdays, and 10 am to 4 pm on Sundays, and would be overseen by a full-time member of staff.

The dry cleaning would not be carried out within the kiosk, but customers could drop off their items and collect them later in the week.

A whole host of other services would be available, ranging from key cutting, engraving and photo printing to repairs to phones, shoes, clothes, watches and jewellery.

Timpson stresses that the retail pod would not generate an increase in traffic. Instead it would rely on “existing footfall” at the Tesco Extra store.

Nor would it lead to any increase in noise or disturbance, says a planning statement drawn up by the company.

The council’s planning officers are currently considering the proposal and hope to make a decision or recommendation by their deadline date of Wednesday, October 14.
