Thriving supermarket in Ollerton gets green light for extension -- more planning applications

A thriving supermarket in Ollerton has been given the green light to create an extension for more shopping space.

The long-established Costcutter store, on Whitewater Road, is housed within a two-storey building that is part of a small parade of shops which offers a range of goods and services to residents in the area.

A planning application was submitted to Newark and Sherwood District Council last summer for a single-storey extension at the back that would also include storage space and new toilets for staff.

No objections were received, with Ollerton and Boughton Town Council supporting the scheme.

Now it has been given permission by the district council’s planning officers, on condition that a bat box is also installed on the site as part of planning requirements to boost biodiversity.

The agent for the scheme was the Nottingham-based company GPS Planning and Design Ltd, whose planning statement said: “The store provides a valuable local service that meets day-to-day needs.

"The extension will provide additional retail floorspace and is considered to be a proportionate and reasonable expansion of the business, allowing it to continue for years to come.”

GPS says the extension will be constructed of similar materials to the main building and could lead to a modest increase in the number of part-time jobs available at the supermarket. A first-floor flat above the store would not be adversely affected.
