Mr Bradley has welcomed the news that wages for furloughed employees are now being paid through the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, a week after claims opened.

He says that payments for claims made on Monday, April, 20 will be in employers’ bank accounts by today Tuesday, April 28.

He also reassured employers in Mansfield and Warsop, saying they “do not need to worry” if they haven’t received payment yet, saying it takes six working days from when it was claimed.

Employers should also not call HMRC to chase payment as they will not be able to update them before the six working days have ended. Employers do not need to do anything to receive payment, it will automatically be sent to the bank account they nominated in their claim.

If employers have not yet made a claim, they can still claim online for a grant for 80% of their furloughed employees’ salaries, up to a maximum of £2,500 per employee, per month.

They will receive the funds six working days after they claim, provided their claim matches records that HMRC holds for their PAYE scheme.

Mr Bradley said: “It’s a massive relief to hear that furloughed employees are now being paid through the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme. I’d like to praise HMRC for this incredibly fast turnaround – I know they’ve been working around the clock to make this possible.

“This quick progress will help so many people in Mansfield and offers financial reassurance during these uncertain times.

“I’d encourage constituents to retain all records and calculations for their claims in case HMRC needs to get in touch in future, as they continue to check claims made through the scheme.”

On his Facebook page the Ripley-born MP also highlighted the Department for Education’s online package of free training and courses to help people upskill and learn from home.

“It might be helpful for furloughed workers who want to keep learning and training, or business owners looking at how to rebuild when things open up, the courses are open to everyone,” he said.

Courses include maths, English up to advanced Coding or Cyber-security.
