Plans for closed Mansfield Indian takeaway to be turned into self-serve laundrette
A closed Indian takeaway in Mansfield will become a laundrette if plans submitted to the council are approved.
Clay Oven Tandoori, at Madeline Court in Berry Hill, closed in February and an application has been submitted to the council for a new self-sevice laundry business to move in to the now-vacant unit.
The business, Speed Queen, calls itself the ‘world’s leading self-service laundry brand’, and operates in more than 1,000 locations across Europe.
Using an app, customers can see how many machines are free, how long remains on each wash or dry cycle and can be notified when their cycle is finished.

Payment can be made using contactless payment options such as bank cards and phone wallet.
The new facility, at the small shopping precinct, would be open from 7am until 10pm every day.
Other units at the centre, which benefits from a car park, include the OneStop convenience store and Cello’s Bar & Brasserie.
Documents sent to Mansfield Council say that modifications to the existing unit will be minimal, mostly focusing on interior configuration and necessary electricity, gas and plumbing installations.
A covering letter from applicants LCP Management Ltd reads: “The proposal aligns with local and national planning policies, supporting economic growth and providing a valuable service to the community.
“The proposed use is wholly supported, positively supporting the vitality and viability of the area.
"Given the clear immediate and wider benefits, and absence of any adverse impacts, planning permission should be granted for the application proposals.”
Speed Queen’s machines and sites are monitored remotely by a ‘dedicated’ customer service and operations team, via a ‘centralised management platform’, which provides live visibility of machine perfromance, cycle status and any faults.
The company says that customer satisfaction is a ‘core priority’ with the remote monitoring system ‘allowing issues to be identified and resolved quickly without disruption to customers’.
It also allows machines to be taken out of service remotely if required.
While sites are not staffed, they are regularly serviced by contracted cleaners.
