The funding is part of a £16.6million package announced by the government to support 75 projects across England that work with victims of domestic abuse and their children.

Ben Bradley said: “It’s brilliant to hear that Nottinghamshire will receive £500,000 in new funding for vital refuge services for survivors of domestic abuse.

He added: “It’s so important that we raise awareness of domestic abuse and ensure refuge services have proper financial support.

“I’ve seen the fantastic work that these services do and last year I ran the Mansfield 10K to help raise money for NIDAS, a local charity that supports survivors of domestic abuse in North Notts.”

Nationwide, it is estimated the funding will help up to 43,000 people stay safe, recover from the trauma, and access suitable rehousing where necessary.

The funding is part of a wider drive by the Government to bolster protection for survivors of domestic abuse, ahead of new legal measures contained in the Domestic Abuse Bill, which is due to be reintroduced in Parliament shortly.

Housing minister Robert Jenrick MP said: “Domestic abuse destroys lives and leaves victims living in fear in their own homes – the place where they should feel most safe and secure.

“No victim of domestic abuse should have to struggle to get the right support or wait months for help that they need. This funding will help local areas better protect victims and their children and provide essential life-saving services.”
