Mansfield MP welcomes 'crack down' on those who attack emergency workers

The Mansfield MP said he is ‘delighted’ after the government agreed to consult on doubling sentences for those who assault emergency workers from a maximum of 12 months in prison to two years.
In 2018, the Government changed the law so that anyone who assaults a police officer, firefighter prison officer or a paramedic would face a maximum of 12 months in prison.

Hide AdIt comes after Nottinghamshire Police arrested a 31-year-old Mansfield man on suspicion of assault of an emergency worker after he kicked a custody sergeant in the leg on Woodhouse Road on May 31.
The Conservative party representative has called for faster action on the reclassification of drugs, spice and mamba following numerous attacks on emergency workers by users in the summer of 2018.
Drug user, Thomas Kirby was jailed for 20 months in 2018 after he stabbed a paramedic in the leg with a syringe in a Mansfield street and Nottinghamshire Police set up a task force at the time to clamp down on the high levels of mamba and spice use in the town two years ago.
Mr Bradley has welcomed the government’s decision to potentially double the length of prison sentences for people who assault emergency service workers, arguing such attacks are ‘totally unacceptable’.

"Whether it’s fighting with the cops or assaulting the ambulance crew who have come to help you – it’s totally unacceptable.
“This consultation sends a robust message to the vile thugs who assault our emergency workers – you will meet the full force of the law and get what you deserve.
"It’s vital that we make sure the punishment fits the crime by doubling sentences, and I’m sure everyone across Mansfield will back this tough approach.”
