Each town could be set to receive £25 million and Ashfield District Council has launched a consultation to ask locals for their ideas.

An online consultation is running until May 30, and the council, whih has been preparing for the investment for the past six months, said it wants residents to be the driving force behind the regeneration plans. Consultation will also be taking place with local business in the near future.

The Government has set out the three areas of regeneration which The Towns Fund will focus on: urban regeneration, planning and land use, skills and enterprise infrastructure and digital and transport connectivity.

The money can be used across the Kirkby and Sutton including area such as Annesley, Stanton Hill and Huthwaite, with investment not just for town centres.

The first part of the process to secure funding was to set up a Town Deal Board, with the Discover Ashfield Board taking on the role. Board membership includes business, voluntary and community, health and education sectors as well as the Council, Nottinghamshire County Council and an MP.

Views on key project ideas to be included in the Towns Fund Investment Plan which will be submitted to the Government later this year, are now needed.

Councillor Matthew Relf, Cabinet Member for Place, Planning and Regeneration said: “Listening to residents is key to our regeneration. Everyone knows that our towns have been overlooked for far too long.

“Resident’s views are vitally important to us as this investment for our towns is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone’s suggestions.

“We are a listening council and every single idea and opinion will be taken into consideration. This is a chance to be involved in the future shape of where we live.”

Not all projects included will be funded through the Towns Fund. The council will work with the government to identify projects which fit the fund criteria and provide value for money.
