Have your say on Huthwaite Welfare Park consultation

Ashfield Council is seeking views on how almost £200,000 of investment into Huthwaite Welfare Park should be spent.

The consultation is part of the council’s Huthwaite Welfare Park masterplan which was developed in 2021 with input from the local community.

Phase one of the improvements was completed in 2021 which saw £110,000 invested into a new play area and landscaping, followed by the tennis court resurfacing in 2024.

This next round of funding will see a total of £310,000 invested into the park, a record amount of money for Huthwaite.

Residents can have an input about how the skate park – which has reached the end of its life – should be replaced, either like for like, or by a modern concrete skate bowl with varying levels of difficulty.

They can also decide which kind of children’s climbing frame is purchased in the future.

Other proposed improvements include creating a new picnic area, an edible orchard and wildflower meadow, as well as improving access to and around the park with new entrances and paths.

The Multi-Use-Games-Area (MUGA) could be refurbished and new football pitch goals installed.

The consultation and full plans can be viewed on the council's website until Monday, March 2 ashfield.gov.uk/huthwaite-welfare-park-masterplan-consultation/ and the council is hosting an in-person event at Huthwaite Library on Thursday, February 19 from 3pm to 5pm.

Coun Paul Grafton (Ash Ind), council chair and member for Huthwaite, said “We are extremely excited to be able to share our plans for Huthwaite Welfare Park with residents.

"We’ve previously funded £110,000 of upgrades and new equipment as stage one of our plan.

"We want to make sure the park is fit for the future needs of the community so we encourage everyone who lives in Huthwaite, or who uses it, to take part in the online survey”.
