Councillor John Peck, who represents Clipstone and Edwinstowe on Nottinghamshire County Council, has been calling for Mansfield Road to be resurfaced for a number of years after residents complained about the “terrible” condition of the surface.

Coun Peck has called for the road to be completely resurfaced up to Davis Close, and following a meeting of the county council’s communities and place board the works have been approved.

It is expected to cost between £150,000 and £200,000 from the council’s 2020/21 budget, with the works due to take place after April 1.

Coun Peck has welcomed the news and says he is also pressing for resurfaced pavements in the area.

He said: “I've discussed the project with highways officers and can confirm the resurfacing will be from the Mansfield boundary to Davis Close.

“It will be carried out sometime during the twelve months commencing April 1. I’m also pressing for the pavements to be included in the project.

“I will also be working hard to get the next section done from Davis Close through to Kings Clipstone, as that is also in a dreadful state.”

Councillor Michael Brown, who represents the area for the Conservatives on Newark and Sherwood District Council, also set up a petition calling for the work which got 806 signatures – including Coun Peck’s.

He has also welcomed news that the resurfacing will take place.

He said: “I’m pleased that the petition I started as a district councillor helped with showing the the county council that residents should get support for things like road infrastructure, which is desperately needed.
