Broxtowe Council votes to reject all three Local Government Reorganisation proposals
Broxtowe Council has voted to reject all three proposals for Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) on the table for Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.
The decision was taken by the council’s cabinet on November 27 following a debate at full council on November 26.

As part of their decision making, cabinet members considered the business cases for Option 1b, Option 1e and Option 1Bii – the latter being Nottingham City Council’s alternative option of expanded boundaries – and unanimously decided that they did not wish to support any of these proposals.
Both Options 1b and 1e put Broxtowe into the new-look city council authority – something the vast majority of Broxtowe councillors and residents are against.
The city’s alternative option did not put all of Broxtowe under its control, just parts of it with Kimberley and Nuthall going under city control, while areas like Eastwood, Giltbrook and Brinsley would stay within the county authority.
A Potential Impact Assessment Report was also considered and it was agreed that this would be submitted to Government by the council.
Members also agreed to write to the Secretary of State highlighting that the council was not against LGR in principle, but to call for the process to be halted in order for it to be considered more fully.
In a survey of Broxtowe residents, 71 per cent of the 12,507 respondents said they did not support any of the options.
The deadline for councils to submit a Local Government Reorganisation proposal to Government was November 28.
Other councils have submitted their own business cases to be reviewed by Government, with formal consultation expected in early 2026 and a final decision next summer.
