Bid to extend site for Gypsies and Travellers -- all the latest Ashfield plans
A bid is being made to obtain permission from Ashfield District Council to extend a rural site for Gypsies and Travellers.
The site is a piece of land, designated as countryside and formerly used for agriculture, spanning almost half-an-acre (0.20 hectares) at Oak Tree Paddock on Kirkby Lane in Pinxton.
Back in November, 2014, the council approved a plan for use of part of the land for one Gypsy pitch with an ancillary day room.
Conditions imposed included limiting the number of caravans to two, only one of which could be a static/mobile home.

However, a planning application has now been submitted by Mr J.O’Rourke to extend the site to provide five extra pitches.
A planning statement says: “The additional mobile homes would be used as accommodation for Mr O’Rourke’s extended family. All the occupants would fall within the definition of Gypsies and Travellers.”
Mr O’Rourke has enlisted the Matlock-based company, Roger Yarwood Planning Consultant Ltd, as his agent for the scheme.
According to planning papers, the site is currently vacant and has not been in use for some time. But work started in May to prepare for the possible extension.

The application accepts that Oak Tree Paddock lies within two flood zones and sits next to a stream, known as Maghole Brook.
But a full flood risk assessment report has been compiled by the Doncaster-based firm, Max Design Consultancy, and lodged with the council. It concludes that risks can be minimised.
The report says: “The site lies in a semi-rural landscape, with undulating farmland, scattered residences and agricultural fields.
"The site was previously used for agriculture, with no prior residential development. Historical records from Ashfield Council and the Environment Agency note no significant flood events on the site."
The council’s planning officers are currently considering the proposal and have set a deadline date of Monday, January 12 for a decision or recommendation.
