Alterations, installations and a bioswale! -- all the latest Mansfield plans
Amid the alterations, installations and extensions that can be found in the latest bundle of planning applications received by Mansfield District Council, there’s also the small matter of a bioswale!
A bio-what!!, we hear you cry. But yes, the council’s planning officers have been asked to consider the continued, existing use of such on land at the Burlington Drive playing Field.
Bioswales are natural, engineered filtration systems – shallow, vegetated and sloped channels designed to manage and filter stormwater run-off from the surrounding roads network.
Instead of routing rainwater directly into sewer systems, they slow, purify and absorb the water, reducing the risk of floods and urban pollution.

This Mansfield bioswale, measuring almost 43 metres long and almost five metres wide, was installed at the playing field by Severn Trent Water Ltd in February last year.
It was designed as a shallow, landscaped depression with a water depth of about 402 millimetres. It operates only during periods of heavy rainfall.
Now Severn Trent has submitted a planning application for a lawful development certificate for the bioswale to officially confirm that it “constitutes permitted development”.
It is one of many proposals that the council’s planning officers are currently running the rule over. Others, on which they hope to make a decision or recommendation by the middle of summer, are listed below:

Roundwood Surgery, Wood Street, Mansfield – removal of two trees within conservation area.
20 Clipstone Road West, Forest Town – single-storey side extensions and external render.
Land to west of Balmoral Drive, Mansfield – discharge of condition (landscape management plan) attached to plan for erection of 34 affordable dwellings, landscaping, highway improvements and associated works.
60 Albert Street, Mansfield Woodhouse – retrospective listed building consent to remove uPVC front and back window-frames and doors, and replace with wooden window-frames and doors.
5 Lindsey Drive, Mansfield – application for lawful development certificate to confirm the continuous, existing use for a period exceeding 25 years of a ground-floor side-window as an opening window serving a habitable room.
52 Albert Street, Mansfield Woodhouse – retrospective listed building consent to remove uPVC front and back window-frames and doors, and replace with wooden window-frames and doors, plus listed building consent to replace uPVC gable window-frame with wooden window-frame.
30 Robin Down Lane, Mansfield – proposed wraparound single-storey extension with associated internal alterations.
15 High Street, Mansfield Woodhouse – alterations to existing roof structure to create a single flat at second-floor level, plus installation of rooflights and new windows.
The Three Lions pub and land next to 15 Netherfield Lane, Meden Vale – discharge of conditions attached to plan for demolition of pub and erection of 41 mixed affordable dwellings with private gardens, communal open space, landscaping and pumping station with access via Netherfield Lane. The conditions relate to remediation, surface water drainage, foul water drainage, finished floor levels and archaeology.
