Police warning over telly scam

Police in Hucknall are warning residents of a scam involving cheap television sets.

On Sunday 29th June at about midday the force was made aware of a suspected con where a man was approaching shoppers in a car park in Nottingham Road, Hucknall, and inviting them to buy television sets from the back of his blue estate van.

Officers have seen similar scams where broken or old televisions have been bought in bulk and repackaged to look brand new.

As with Sunday’s incident offenders set themselves up in car parks or busy places near to ATMs where people can access cash quickly.

They then approach potential buyers directly and offer discount prices or use bullying tactics to force people to hand over their money.

The force is appealing for people to be aware of the scam and remember that if something seems too good to be true then it probably is.

Any information, especially descriptions and vehicle registration numbers, could help investigations.

Anyone with information can call police on 101 or Crimestoppers.
