Police urge caution following Amber Valley burglaries

Police are reminding residents to make sure their homes are secure whenever they are out, asleep or in the garden after burglaries in the Amber Valley.

The most recent happened in Somercotes sometime between 7am and 5.30pm on Tuesday.

Two iPads were stolen from a house on Welbeck Close, and it is believed the offenders may have got in through an insecure window.

There have been two other incidents in the Amber Valley during the past two weeks.

The first took place on Hawthorne Road, Pinxton, overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday, while the second happened on Field Lane, Kilburn on 23rd May between 9pm and midnight.

In Chesterfield, a set of keys were taken from a house on Holland Road, Old Whittington, sometime between 1pm and 6pm on 23rd May.

It is thought the offenders entered through an unlocked door.

Community Safety Inspector Russell Dakin said: “We tend to see more of this type of incident, where thieves take advantage of insecure windows and doors, especially as the weather starts to improve.

“These sorts of burglaries can be prevented by taking common sense measures such as locking doors and closing ground floor windows when going to bed, going into the garden or even when just leaving the room.”

Residents are also advised not to leave valuables in places where they can be seen from the outside and to store house and vehicle keys in a safe place and not near a door or window where they could be reached.

Anyone with information about these incidents should contact Derbyshire police on 101, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
