Police target motorists in safety drive

The Nottinghamshire Police operation, which took place on Thursday, 22nd May, was carried out as part of the force’s Fatal 4 campaign.

The Fatal 4 drive aims to tackle what police describe as the most dangerous behaviours regularly seen by drivers - exceeding the speed limit, failing to wear seat belts, using mobile phones whilst driving and driving under the influence of drink or drugs.

Officers set up check points at known accident blackspots and a total of 82 motorists were prosecuted.

Police were located at the Fox and Crown crossroads, and along the A38 at its junctions with Station Road and Alfreton Road, where a total of 50 motorists were prosecuted.

Additionally, a total of 82 drivers were prosecuted after they were stopped at common Road, in Huthwaite, and Lammas Road in Sutton. All prosecutions were for not wearing seatbelts or using a mobile phone behind the wheel.

Ashfield Insp Andy Clarke said locations had been selected because they are known collision hot spots or where people have raised concerns about speeding.

He said: “It needs to be recognised that we do have collision hot spots in Ashfield North and we are targeting resources to raise awareness and where appropriate prosecuting motorists for offences that have been contributory factors in collisions at these locations.”
