Police reveal new information with Racecourse Park sex attack

Following interviews with the victim, officers now believe that the offender was wearing a pair of light coloured, possibly grey, canvas shoes.

The victim has revealed that the shoes had elasticated sections and stripes on the side, but not laces.

The shoes may have got blood on them from the attack, and could also have picked up mud and grass stains during the assault.

Police would also like readers to be on the lookout for anyone with a new or recent injury to their hand or fingers, after it emerged that the victim had bitten her attacker during the assault.

Speaking last week, Det Chief Insp Andy Crouch, who is leading the investigation, said: “This was a vicious assault and he punched the woman repeatedly to the head during the attack.

“We are appealing to friends and family of this man to come to us, so he can be brought to justice.”

The attack happened at around 9.10am on Racecourse Park, close to Epsom Street, while the victim was out walking her dog.

The attacker is described as white, around 20 years old, between 5ft 8 and 6ft tall and of slim build.

At the time of the attack he was clean shaven and was wearing a dark hooded jacket and light trousers. He spoke with a local accent.

Police are also keen to speak to two potential witnesses, who the victim believes passed by towards the end of her ordeal.

Speaking to the Chad, she said that she had been aware of someone walking past her while she was being assaulted, and a second person who travelled past at speed - possibly riding a bicycle.

Det Insp Darren Mee added “The victim in this attack has showed a tremendous amount of courage following her ordeal which happened in an area enjoyed by many of Mansfield’s residents.”
