It focused on the ‘fatal four’ - speeding, not wearing a seat belt, using a mobile phone whilst driving and drink driving - which are so often the cause of serious collisions and fatalities on the road.

Over 3000 vehicles were checked during the operation with police issuing the following reports:

►- 25 traffic offence reports issued for speeding, no insurance and other road traffic offences.

- 4 vehicles have been seized for having no insurance.

- 1 vehicle seized for having no valid vehicle tax.

- 20 people have been tested for their eye sight and am pleased to say all passed.

Sergeant Carl Holland said: “We have listened to the communities of Ashfield and I am pleased to say that Operation Decelerate has been able to tackle those areas highlighted over this weekend.

“Road safety is a priority for the neighbourhood policing team and I will be looking to run Operation Decelerate again in the district in the future”.
