Nottinghamshire Police confirmed officers attended a property on Alcock Avenue on the town’s Ravensdale estate at around 5.45pm last night (March 31).

A spokesman said: "A child at the address was found to have taken ill and was then transported to hospital where she has subsequently died."

Shocked residents say forensic investigators spent much of the evening inside the property, while outside the street was lined with police vehicles.

Neighbour Dean Matson said: "The number of police officers that were outside was scary.

"Forensics were there for a good amount of time taking pictures as flashes came from the whole house.

"Today, the father that lives in the house was crying stood in the centre of the road. Police were also next door and looked round the house and even in the garden.”

Nottinghamshire Police is investigating the circumstances on behalf of the coroner and in conjunction with other agencies.

The police spokesman said no arrests had been made.
