Police hunt youth after sex attack

A SEARCH is underway for a youth suspected of carrying out a serious sexual assault on a 17-year-old girl in the area of Crown Farm in Mansfield.

Teams of officers supported by the police helicopter hunted through the night for the suspect after the attack, which happened at around 3.30pm on Thursday.

The teenager was assaulted as she walked along a cut-through from Crown Farm industrial estate.

She is currently being supported by specially trained police officers.

The victim has described her attacker as a white man, about 16 years of age, around 5ft 6 to 7” tall, with blonde curly or wavy short hair, of slim build, wearing black clothing and carrying a black school-type bag.

Police would like to hear from anyone who may have seen something they regarded as suspicious in the area of Crown Farm.

Officers say it is highly likely the offender will have returned home Thursday afternoon or evening in an agitated state and may well have been behaving out of character.

Police say they would particularly like to hear from anyone who knows someone fitting the description and who may have been showing signs of behaviour that is out of the ordinary.
