Police await results of DNA test to identify body found in water at Mansfield quarry

Police are still awaiting the results of DNA tests to confirm the identity of the body of a teenage boy found by underwater divers at Mansfield’s Ratcher Hill Quarry on Tuesday morning.

Nottinghamshire Police’s Underwater Search Unit found the body at the Southwell Road working quarry at about 10.15am as part of the search for missing schoolboy Ciaran Sweeney.

A police spokesman said they hoped identity could be confirmed today (Friday).

In the meantime police are continuing to support the family of missing Oak Tree teenager Ciaran Sweeney.

Chief Inspector Paul Winter said: “We appreciate that this will be an emotional and trying time for the local community but until we can make formal identification we ask for your patience and sensitivity towards all involved.”

Ciaran’s family have asked that the media respect their privacy at this time.
