Police appeal to trace man who approached 10-year-old girl in Mansfield Woodhouse

Parents in Mansfield Woodhouse are being warned to be on their guard after a report of a man approaching a 10-year-old schoolgirl in the area and offering her a lift home.

Officers were called after the girl was approached by the stranger between 3.15-3.30pm on Tuesday 4th November on Ley Lane, close to Leas Park Junior school.

The man is described as white and aged in his 50s with short brown spikey hair.

Police say he had brown or green eyes, was clean shaven and spoke with a British accent.

He was wearing a blue, short-sleeved T-shirt.

Officers believe that his distinctive vehicle – a rusty, red four-door car with dull, scratched paintwork – may have been spotted in the area that afternoon.

Said Insp Mark Webster: “Nottinghamshire Police takes reports of this kind very seriously and has stepped up its patrols of the area as we look to track down the vehicle and its driver.

Parents at nearby schools have already been made aware of the incident and we would encourage anyone with information to come forward.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information should contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
