Poet’s work is released on new DVD

A BULWELL poet has achieved something which even Lord Byron never managed -- bringing out a DVD of his verse!

Twenty-six of Ron Martin’s poems have been recorded on the disc, which has been produced by the RiDisc company.

Now in his 85th year, Ron began writing poetry about 20 years ago. His prolific output totals about 900 poems on all sorts of subjects.

Twenty books of his verse have been published. One of the latest is entitled ‘Expressions’ and it has a vivid seascape picture on the front cover.

The themes of Ron’s poems on the DVD range from the American Civil War to the daring Dambusters raid in The Second World War and The Earth Worm to Carol Singing.

Other titles on the disc include ‘Freedom’, ‘The Sound of Silence’, ‘Safari’, ‘Remember the Fallen’, ‘My Valentine’, ‘Autumn Requiem’ and ‘At the Bottom of my Garden’.

Ron spent all his working life with the National Coal Board and he became a magistrate and a school governor.

He is also a former chairman of Bulwell Church Institute, which was located on Robinsons Hill before moving to its present site next to the town’s bus station.

“My main aim is to focus on everyday things of life and important topics which have a profound effect on the world’s future,” says Ron.
