Plans in place for Edwinstowe dog houses

Plans are in place to expand a dog training centre in Edwinstowe with boarding kennels for up to 30 dogs.

The application has been put in to Newark and Sherwood District Council planning department for the proposals at South Forest Farm.

The current use of the land is the Catz Whiskers boarding cattery and Sheps Dog Training Centre.

As well as boarding, the owners are looking to open the provision of a dog grooming facility and a training centre.

If given the green light by planners, the design shows 30 individual kennels for housing the animals.

As part of the application, the entrance road onto the premises could be widened, while buildings already on the 3.7 hectare sit just south of Edwinstowe, could be torn down to make way for the purpose-built kennels.

The application reads: “A cluster of buildings including the original farm house forms the central farm yard area.

“Consideration has been given to the reuse of existing buildings on the site but due to the unique design and specific requirements, this is considered to be impractical.

“For this reason, a number of unwanted buildings will be removed as part of the development.”

The applicant, Jane Armstrong, who opened the business 11 years ago, says there would be little increase in traffic caused by the upgraded business with people collecting pets on an ‘ad-hoc’ basis.
