A Mansfield supermarket could expand - by building shops in its own car park.

Morrisons, on Sutton Road, has applied for planning permission to build three new retail units – which will see the loss of around 90 parking spaces.

Plans include three new retail units, a car wash, tyre service area and two small retail "pods".

Whittam Cox Architects, the architects working on behalf of the supermarket said: "The scheme seeks to revitalise the existing WM Morrisons car park by offering more choice to customers and generating new employment opportunities through the provision of two retail units and a drive thru, alongside a car village.

"The proposal will be constructed to high standards and with sensitivity to its locality. We are confident that the proposed site additions will be exceptionally well received by the local residents and visitors to Mansfield.

"WM Morrisons hope that the advantages of this proposal as well as the overall benefits to the local community will be supported by Mansfield District Council."
