Supermarket giant Morrisons which owns a car park off Low Moor Road has been given planning permission subject to conditions by Ashfield District Council to manage the land with an automatic number-plate recognition (ANPR system).

A spokesman from Morrisions said it introduced an initial system after listening to customers who said “they were finding it hard to find a space, especially at peak times”.

Including “mother-and-toddler spaces”.

The car park currently has 342 parking bays, including 11 bays for people with disabilities and six parent-and-child bays.

A spokeswoman from Parking Eye a car park management company which submitted the plans said: “The proposal seeks to provide management to reduce car park abuse and ensure that spaces are available for genuine site users.”

However, concerns were raised by residents who use the car park to access Trinity Methodist Church and the Library in the town.

James French, for Morrisons said there will be a 15-minute grace period for people popping into store quickly and patients visiting the adjoining doctors are not charged.
