Planning permission needed...to move public phone a few yards

Nottinghamshire Police have had to apply for planning permission to move an emergency public phone just yards from its existing position.

The wall-mounted phone site, on the side of the police station on The Burgage, Southwell, puts people in direct contact with the police switchboard when the reception counter is not open. The site is owned and managed by Southwell Town Council, but requires planning permission from Newark and Sherwood District Council because the building is Grade-II listed.

Police are seeking to shift the yellow phone from the edge of the building to the building’s entrance.
