Ashfield District Council’s community protection team has received regular complaints about motorists parking near schools in the area.

If the county council’s plans go ahead drivers could be prosecuted for stopping on the existing School Keep Clear markings between Monday to Friday from 8am-4.30pm.

A report by Ashfield District Council’s planning department reads: “The order will help to ensure that the road outside the school is kept clear of vehicles during the school day, making it safer for pupils attending school.”

In addition to the School Keep Clear markings order the county council has proposed introducing yellow lines to prevent waiting at junctions in Kirby, Selston and Sutton.

The report reads: “This is to stop vehicles parking across the pedestrian crossing points to make it safer.

“The restrictions will ensure parked vehicles do not obstruct the visibility for vehicles turning into or out of the junction.”
