Planners divided over Mansfield restaurant planning application

Mansfield planning chiefs were divided over an application for an illuminated sign above a town centre restaurant.

The sign is already in place at The Chand Indian restaurant on Toothill Road, and was recommended for refusal by conservation officers this week who said it was harmful to the character of the area.

Some councillors argued it enhanced the business, while others said they should listen to the recommendations, and argued a message needed to be sent to those who submit retrospective applications.

The vote was split with five voting for, and five against, with committee chairman Sally Higgins making the crucial final vote to turn the application down.
