A 17-year-old who has turned her life around after gaining qualifications and getting a job has vowed to help others.
Charley Perry, from Pinxton, found herself to be unhappy after leaving school with no qualifications, so finally decided to do something about it.
She gained functional skills in maths, English, ICT, personal safety and customer services after enrolling with TBG Learning’s centre in Alfreton and is now working for the company in a joint receptionist and business administration apprenticeship role.
She said: “Before I found out about TBG Learning I didn’t know what I wanted to do.
“I was kicked out of school and left with no qualifications and decided to give up. By giving up I made mistakes, wrong decisions and had a bad attitude with everyone around me including my family.
“I learned about TBG Learning Alfreton from a flier I saw at Connexions and enrolled on the Foundation Learning programme in December.”
Charley achieved outstanding results in her exams and staff at the King’s Street Centre quickly realised her potential.
She added: “The staff all commented on how much progression I had made since I started the programme, which made me feel incredible and I wanted to continue to be a changed person, and remain positive,” she added.
“When I found about the apprenticeship vacancy within the organisation I jumped at the chance to go for it – and after two interviews I got the job.”
