Pink parade nets £10k for children’s charity

Dozens of pink cars and brightly-clad motorists descended on Kings Mill Hospital earlier this month to raise funds for the Little Princess Trust - a charity which provides real-hair wigs for youngsters suffering hair loss as a result of cancer treatment.

It was the first time the Pink Car Rally - now in its sixth year - had come to the Mansfield area, as a tribute to long-term supporter Tania Willetts, whose sister Nadine recently got the all-clear following cancer treatment.

Tania (pictured), a paediatric nurse at Kings Mill, personally raised more than £1,400 in sponsorship, and so far the rally has raised a massive £10,700 with money still coming in.

Tania told the Chad: “The money I have raised personally means we have enough money to buy four wigs for children.

“Each wig can cost anything from £300 to £500.”

The two-day fundraising convoy started in Hereford, where the charity is based, and travelled to Kings Mill, before heading on to Lincoln and Peterborough on 8th and 9th September.

Rally organiser Sali Gray added: “It was a fabulous weekend - the people at Kings Mill were absolutely wonderful and so many people turned out to see the parade. The people of Mansfield absolutely embraced the event and made us feel really welcome.”
