The event on Sunday, June 10, organised by Mansfield Rotary Club and the Sister Cities Association was held on the recreation ground next to the Civic Centre on Chesterfield Road South, Mansfield. The fun day was originally meant to be entertainment for the first ever Mayors Community Parade which was cancelled day’s prier to the event because of over safety, security and traffic concerns. The parade was meant to see groups from around Mansfield lead by Mayor Kate Allsop parade through the town centre. Coun Rickersey, member of the Rotary club said: “It was a glorious day weather wise and the entertainment was first class. Anyone that was there enjoyed it.”At the event there were classic cars including an old fir engine and also singers, including ABBA and Madonna tribute acts. There were also kick-boxing sessions by the Raven Defence Arts, who are usually based at the Business Park, Pleasley Vale. There were also plenty of stalls and fair ground rides. Coun Rickersey has said there are plans to host the fun day again next year with the parade. He said: “Most who attended the event overcame the disappointment of the cancelled parade. “Lessons have been learnt going forward we will make it even better.”Mayor Allsop held a lunch were £2,500 was handed out to organisations.
