Crews were called to the derelict factory, on Victoria Street, shortly after 7pm.

At its height, six fire engines and two aerial ladder platforms were on the scene, including two from the neighbouring Derbyshire service, as large flames could be seen reaching into the sky.

Some nearby residents were asked to temporarily leave their homes, while others were urged to keep there doors and windows closed due to the volume of smoke.

The fire service said the incident is now scaling down, although “four fire engines remain, and this is likely to be scaled down further soon”.

A spokesman for Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service said: “Thanks for your patience while we dealt with the fire.”
