Photographer to reveal Mansfield's hidden secrets at exhibition

Neil Pledger has spent the last year exploring the lost nooks and crannies of Mansfield and uncovering pieces of the town's rich heritage.

The exhibition, which will take place at Mansfield Library from 2pm, will feature never seen before footage and photographs of the lost caves, buildings, businesses and forgotten history, interwoven with his stories of growing up in the town during the 1970s and 80s.

There will also be new images from his “Footprints of Mansfield” series, where old Mansfield photographs are combined with modern local scenes.

He said: "Over the last year I have been exploring lost nooks and crannies of Mansfield uncovering long lost pieces of the towns rich heritage. I have recently explored and filmed the Hermitage water wheel house and Mill race tunnel that had been sealed for decades. Uncovered and explored 5 caves along Church street, finding artefacts like 40/50s delivery bikes, meat curing hooks and bell jars, as well as getting a chance to explore caves once designated air raid shelters for some 1500 people during the war."
