Petrol thief ordered to do unpaid work

A Sutton man who left without paying for petrol when he forgot his wallet committed the offence twice more after he lost his job, Mansfield Magistrates’ Court heard on Wednesday.

Christopher Dennis Turner (30), of Mapplewells Road, put £50,08 of petrol in his car on 30th November but left when he realised he had forgotten his wallet.

The court was told that shortly afterwards Turner lost his job and put £40.06 and £50.02 in his vehicle on December 24th and 29th at garages in Sutton and Mansfield Woodhouse - again driving away without offering to pay.

He was ordered to complete 46 hours of unpaid work, and told to pay £140.16 in compensation, £85 in costs and a £60 victim surcharge.
