THE re-trial of a Skegby man. whose conviction for murder was quashed on appeal in May, has been put back to 2nd October 2012.
Peter Smith (47) was due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court yesterday accused of killing his 71-year-old neighbour Hilda Owen at her West Hill home in 2007.
But because his re-trial is expected to last around seven weeks, next October’s date was the earliest available the court had to set down a trial of that length.
He had his conviction quashed in May after judges said analysis of a bloody fingerprint found on a door handle at her home and the way evidence was presented in court were not up to modern standards.
