Andrew Chadbourne, aged 21, admitted two counts of encouraging or facilitating the commission of a child sex offence and two counts of causing or inciting prostitution or pornography involving a child under the age of 13 and a child aged 13 to 17.

Nottingham Crown Court heard Chadbourne had used the aliases Rick Flair and Andy Nottzz when contacting the girls in March last year.

Sarah Knight, prosecuting, said: “At the start of March last year, Chadbourne made contact with his first victim via Facebook. She simply added him as a friend.

“He asked her to contact him on Snapchat. At first their chat was normal, according to the victim, but then she said he became weird.

“She described him as becoming flirtatious and wanting sex. She told him she didn’t want to do anything. He asked her for sex again and became annoyed with her. He asked her to come to his place.

“He sent her a picture of his erect penis and asked for a picture of her topless, which she refused. She thought he lived in Bulwell.”

She told him she was 13 and asked his age. Chadbourne told her he was 18, which was not true.

The girl’s mother discovered what was happening and contacted police. She recorded some of their dialogue on Snapchat.

In the case of the second victim, Chadbourne again became friends on Facebook and communicated via webcam.

“He looked about 15 on his personal picture,” said Ms Knight.

“He asked to see her breasts and bottom and asked to meet her in Bulwell. She would talk to him every day on Facebook and often into the evening.”

Again, the girl’s mother read the messages and called police.

Claire Moran, mitigating, said: “Last year he was at quite a low ebb. He had lost his job and his relationship had broken down. He was self-harming. He can’t really remember the period.

“He said to me by communicating with these girls he was getting some kind of attention which he wasn’t getting at that time in his life.

“He made no attempt to disguise himself by using another picture. It is something he bitterly regrets now.

“There was no meeting in the end with either of these young ladies. There is no evidence of a predatory lifestyle.”

Sentencing, Judge Jeremy Lea said: “These are serious matters. You have pleaded guilty to offences involving grooming on the internet.

“What really concerns me is that you were well aware of the age of these young girls. I do think you were targetting them. There is a very serious element.”

Chadbourne, of Imperial House, Derby Road, Nottingham, was jailed for a total of four years, banned from having any contact with a child under the age of 16 and placed on the sex offenders’ register.
