The Facebook status, which has been shared over 480 times, said: "To all dog walkers in Bellamy, please be careful when walking dogs on the sand bank, as some idiots think it's clever to hide planks of wood with nails in. Small reward to who ever knows who is doing this."

Numerous similar pieces of wood have been found hidden in the sand bank on Bellamy Road Estate, Mansfield, which is popular with dog walkers.

Amy, a resident of the estate said: "A lot of people are angry because they walk their dogs on there, and kids play there. It could seriously do some damage if a child falls on them let alone an adult or a dog walking on them."

Harry Smith, who found the planks said: "I walk my dog on the sand banks a couple of times a day, and I looked down and saw nails sticking out of the sand.

"I pulled the plank out, and looked across the fields to see if there were any more.

"For four days in a row I have found more and more planks with nails in."

Harry is worried that someone may be placing the wood there maliciously, as youngsters often use the area for riding their motorbikes.

"A group of kids play on there and take motorbikes on there, so I think someone might have got annoyed and put the planks down to stop them, but they're just young kids.

"There's a big group of them aged between eight and 12 that make dens on there, and just do what kids do, but these nails are making it really dangerous.

"I've tried to spread the word as much as possible, and I hope it gets back to the person who is doing it.

"I wouldn't be surprised if I found more."

Nottinghamshire Police have been contacted for comment.
