Wanted shoplifter detained by off-duty officer at Giltbrook Retail Park
An off-duty police officer interrupted a day out with his family to intercept, pin down and arrest a wanted shoplifting suspect at Giltbrook Retail Park.
PC Harry Brown was shopping with his wife and young child shortly before 1.45pm on Monday, January 22, when he spotted the man entering Boots at the Giltbrook Retail Park.
Aware he was wanted for a string of thefts, PC Brown identified himself, seized hold of him and – after a brief struggle – arrested him on suspicion of seven counts of theft.
The 40-year-old suspect has now been recalled to prison.

Sergeant Heather Harding, of the Broxtowe South Neighbourhood Team, said: “This was an outstanding bit of work from an officer who wasted no time in bringing a wanted man into custody.
“Without a set of handcuffs or any of the safety gear he’d usually be wearing, he immediately jumped into action to protect local retailers from further harm.
“I am sure the wider public will join me in congratulating him for his bravery and commitment to his duty.”
