Gary Hagan of Mansfield Mobility Centre has been overwhelmed with stories of frontline NHS staff and their sacrifices to keep us safe, and decided to think outside of the box of ways to thank them for their efforts.

Gary said “Having to face danger and uncertainty every day at work, and holding the hands of patients on behalf of the family members that couldn’t be there, must be physically and emotionally draining.

“I wondered how we could all thank them for trying to save our family and friends. – I had seen fundraisers where money goes to NHS charities, but wanted to do something where I knew staff members would benefit personally from it.”

After some thought, Gary decided to start a fundraiser on his facebook page and got his business, Mansfield Mobility Centre, involved to sponsor a campaign and to spread the word around Nottinghamshire. He continued “I’ve set up a fundraiser which will send an NHS nurse on a well-deserved holiday.

“I want to raise enough funds to send at least one local hero and their family away once this is all calms down.”

Gary boosted the fundraiser by doing a mini Elvis tribute show on his facebook page, despite by his own joking admission of ‘not being very good’.He continued: “I just want to say a massive thank you to all my friends and family that have donated - funds currently stand at over £1,700 and rising.”“I hope the fund will grow. I’m sad that I cant give a holiday to every single one of them, but this shows that the people of Mansfield are behind them and are grateful for everything they do.”You can donate to the cause by visiting the public facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/donate/241556693918312/10157576111563878/

Gary is asking for names of local nurses via nomination forms at King’s Mill Hospital, and the names will go into a draw next week.
