Haulier Kyle Thorburn had stopped at B Taylors & Sons Transport’s overnight facility on Nunn Brook Road, last week.

The driver, who works for K Thorburn Ltd, Gloucester had dropped his wallet on the floor in a busy area where dozens of trucks and people, many from overseas, pass through every day.

Truck driver Bill Shaw, 59, from Chesterfield spotted the leather wallet, which contained the cash and a number of credit cards and handed it into managing director Alan Taylor, who helped track down the owner.

A spokesperson for the firm said: “Kyle had been looking everywhere for his wallet. There was quite a bit of money, about £100, and all his credit cards.

“It was later found, and the good deed was done by our honest rigid truck driver Bill Shaw. Kyle was absolutely overwhelmed with the fact everything was still in it when he got it back.

“As a company we just wanted to say ‘well done’ to Bill for handing it in, it just goes to show there are still some Good Samaritans out there, and there are still good, honest people about. It is also nice to hear a good news story, after all the doom and gloom of the lockdown recently!”

Kyle Thorburn said: “I’d just parked up to go and get something to eat, and realised that I’d lost my wallet. It had about £100 inside and my credit cards. I wasn’t worried about the money as I was thinking I’d then have to start cancelling all my cards.

“It was very kind of Bill to hand it in, and I want to thank him and the security guards at Taylors who went to a lot of effort to find me, looking on the CCTV. I am so grateful. I can’t thank Taylor’s enough.”

Bill, who is a dad of three and grandad of three, has worked for Taylors for the past three years .

He said: “I’d like to think that if it was my wallet, someone would do the same for me.”
