He is remembered fondly by his former colleagues.

Harry Parsonage worked with Michael, known as Mick, at Worksop and remembers a particular incident:

“There was a time in the early eighties when he was aiming to arrest a young lad who jumped on a bus to escape.

“Mick ran after the bus and caught up with it as it got near town probably a mile later, and collared the lad who thought he’d escaped.

“We all enjoyed the tale. “He was a lovely fellow and well liked by his colleagues.”

Malcolm Godber worked with Mick in Ilkeston and remembers a funnier side to him:

“He was a really good guy, very funny.

“He was on office duties when a reporter from the Ilkeston Advertiser came into the station asking for any crime stories.

“Mick told him about a burglary at Ilkeston Cricket Club, he said it was a wicket crime and the police were stumped for clues.

“The reporter duly quoted Mick as Police spokesman!”

His funeral is on April 23 but will unfortunately be for immediate family only due to coronavirus restrictions.
