Trees fall on Shirebrook house as Storm Ciara sweeps UK

A number of trees have been uprooted and fallen onto a house in Shiebrook due to Storm Ciara’s high winds.

The house, on Park Avenue, was victim to high winds as Storm Ciara sweeps the UK.

The extent of the damage is not yet known, and no injuries have been reported.

An Amber weather warning is in force for the storm, and flood alerts have been issued for the rivers Maun and Meden.

Long Eaton High Street has been closed due to concerns over unsafe scaffolding, and visitor attractions such as White Post Farm and Rufford Abbey are closed for the day.

The lanes were closed earlier today on the M1 near J30 when a vehicle overturned.

Dozens of flights have been cancelled while bus and rail companies across the country have urged passengers not to travel today.
