Remote learning, being stuck inside and missing friends and family are just some of the tough things that children have had to deal with over the last year.
We asked parents to nominate their super stars and tell us how they have made the most of a bad lockdown situation.
In these confusing and worrying times, local journalism is more vital than ever. Thanks to everyone who helps us ask the questions that matter by taking out a subscription or buying a paper. We stand together. Nancy Fielder, editor.
1. Joseph Watson
Sarah Watson nominated her son Joseph. She said: "I would like to nominate my son Joseph who is 11 years old. "He is doing absolutely amazing during this lock down that has again effected being able to go to school. "He starts his day with what ever the first task of the “school day” is and works incredibly hard, producing some fabulous pieces of work. "On top of this he deals with the pains, fatigue and discomfort that sadly come in hand in hand with a progressive Neuro muscular condition he was born with. "I’m so extremely proud of Joseph and the strength and resilience he shows for such a young person." Photo: Sarah Watson
2. Arriella Andrews
Cassidy-Loren Andrews nominated her daughter. She said: "This is Arriella she turned three a few weeks ago.
"I'm proud of her because she was born with no immune system (bubble baby) and has spent most of her life in hospital or isolation. "We got home last year and since then shes had to shield for the majority of it. "She doesn't complain and is happy every single day. "Even though the only times she really gets to leave the house is for hospital appointments. "She has problems with mobility and has learnt how to take a few steps in lockdown three. "Shes an absolute warrior and I couldn't be more proud." Photo: Cassidy-Loren Andrews
3. Ernie Clarkson
Emma Clarkson nominated her son Ernie. She said: "I'd like to nominate my son Ernie, five years old. "He has ASD and all the struggles that come along with it and is high functioning as well as being vulnerable with respiratory issues. "He's the brightest boy I have ever known and works super hard. "He misses school and all of his school friends desperately but has been so well behaved and has worked hard every day joining school lessons online and getting fabulous feedback. "On top of it all he is very loving and has taken the lockdown in his stride despite missing his extended family. I couldn't be prouder to be his mum." Photo: Emma Clarkson
